Editor's Note: Out on Display

For many across the country, September signals the start of school. From kindergarten, all the way up through to the college level, a new school year has begun. For our industry, however, September usually indicates the start of the fall trade show season. PSPs are busy creating new trade show displays for their customers and manufacturers are releasing the latest and greatest products to the market.

In this issue, we’ll touch on both of those topics. Starting on page 16, Jeff Steele had the chance to talk to three PSPs that specialize in trade show displays and exhibits. No matter what industries these shops are serving, they are creating masterpieces for their clients and are growing their profits. What's the trick? They’re offering top notch products that grab show goers’ attention without breaking the bank.

Following up on that, Danny Schneider, director of business development for Vista System, provides a primer on how to select signs to promote your booth. Whether you’re creating your own booth or someone else’s, this article gives you the pointers to make it a simple task.

Additionally, we continue the theme from the August issue on workflow. This month we highlight the benefits of business management and estimating software for the wide-format market. While the commercial printing segment of the market has had various business management and estimating software programs for several years, that hasn’t been the case for the wide-format market. Recently, however, software designed specifically for the wide- and grand-format industry has emerged, giving PSPs the tools they need to manage waste and resources, track jobs and projects, accurately quote new jobs, and manage all of their business finances. We discuss two important questions with the software manufacturers: How do wide-format printers benefit from using this type of software? And what is the best argument for adding business management and estimating software to a printing company? If you haven’t already added this to your business, this article might give you a compelling reason to look at it a little more closely.

And finally, on page 30 and 31, we’ve compiled some of the new products that will be on display during this year’s Graph Expo in Chicago’s McCormick Place. This will just whet your appetite for the show October 3-6. And new this year, the Cygnus Graphics Media Group (of which Wide-Format Imaging is a part) will be producing the Graph Expo Show Daily for GASC. So you can expect to find me running all over the show floor in Chicago, covering all the press conferences and the happenings in the market.
