xpedx Highlights for Show Attendees Connectivity Across Print Platform

At its booth (3200) xpedx is highlighting integration and connectivity across the print production chain.

“The technologies critical for printers to investigate at GRAPH EXPO are systems and equipment that reduce costs and increase efficiency—and that  help drive top-line revenue,” said Dennis Killion, xpedx Director of Marketing, in Monday’s press conference.

During the show, xpedx is demonstrating an automated workflow that links all the key steps from job input to output on a digital press. Attendees can experience the process firsthand, and come away with souvenir posters of themselves output on an EFI wide-format device.

Workflow process

The workflow process begins with EFI Digital Storefront and EFI Pace software, then connects to a Kodak Prinergy digital workflow, and finally to EFI Colorproof  XF for proofers and wide-format devices. Production continues with the C.P. Bourg sheet feeder, which feeds collated output from any digital press to near-line finishing equipment. Morgana’s DigiFold Pro and Seacap’s mailing solutions are also being demonstrated.

EFI and xpedx also announced xpedx will distribute EFI’s Rastek wide -format and VUTEk superwide-format digital printers to commercial and in-plant printers across the U.S. The two companies also announced the expansion of their integration of paper information into EFI print MIS systems with the addition of EFI Monarch.

“We’re excited to expand our relationship with xpedx, in particular to bring our award-winning wide- and superwide-format digital printers to an even broader customer base,” said Frank Mallozzi, Senior VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, EFI. “We expect to realize a larger market segment of commercial print than with previous partners, while print service providers of all specialties now have access to powerful Rastek and VUTEk printers that can boost their productivity, bring in new clients and increase profits. Alongside of this, we’re pleased to add Monarch integration with the xpedx paper catalog, to further simplify this critical component in the supply chain.”

Building on the success of the PrintSmith integration with the xpedx paper catalog, Monarch print MIS customers now have real-time paper inventory, customer pricing and order management built in to the Monarch software. Killion says that merging xpedx eCommerce solutions with PrintSmith and Monarch MIS lowers total procurement costs for a printer's largest spend. Paper and substrates can account for half of a total job cost, and specification decisions directly impact total job profitability, making automation a critical business issue.
