Cover Story: Wrap Qwest Field3

Shop: Point Imaging, Hobart, IN
Client: CoverMaster & Xbox
Challenge: Creating 300,000 sq.ft. of Wrapgraphics to cover the entire upper deck of Qwest Field3

This massive project was two years in the making. Point Imaging client CoverMaster is a traditional field and seat tarp maker. They called on Point Imaging to produce printed mesh graphics to cover the entire upper deck of Qwest Field in Seattle, WA.

CoverMaster first contacted Point Imaging in the fall of 2007 for this unique graphic solution. The challenge was to design and implement a graphic wrap that was both feasible and within budget. Microsoft was using the upper deck of Qwest Field to help launch their newest Xbox soccer game, MLS Live during home games of the Seattle Sounder’s inaugural season in the MLS.

Prototyping began in early 2008, demonstrating how the materials would deal with any weather related concerns that could be encountered. After successful testing, production started at Point Imaging’s 66,000 sqft facility. Point Imaging printed on outdoor grade mesh banner material and welded handles on each panel that represented a section of covered seating. After an intense and busy production schedule, shipping and installation took place with the final shipment occurring in early 2009. The total square footage of mesh used in this project exceeded 300,000.

During the project, Point Imaging provided CoverMaster with various services such as:

  • Site tour and measurements to develop budget
  • Production facility site tour
  • Conceptual design
  • Create scale map of Qwest Field for art and production
  • Create artwork templates to be used by CoverMaster design team
  • Prototyping and post-installation quality visit

Opening day for the Seattle Sounders was televised nationally on ESPN. There were several panoramic shots of the massive advertisement. Both CoverMaster and Xbox were thrilled with the results and how the entire project came together.
