The Franklin Event Committee of the Printing Industries Alliance announced its 2010 Power of Communications Award recipients.

They are: Printing—Hallie Satz, chief executive officer, HighRoad Press/vice chair, Phoenix Lithographing (New York City); Publishing—Scott Masterson, senior vice president and general manager, Forbes magazine (New York City); and Advertising—Valerie Merrone, executive vice president, Publishing, Victoria’s Secret (New York City).

The award, which was established in 1971, provides industry recognition to individuals who have demonstrated positive influence and creative excellence in their designated areas of the graphic communications industry.

The recipient of the Franklin Award for Distinguished Service, the industry’s highest recognition, will be announced shortly.

Open nominations for the John Peter Zenger Medal, which honors industry individuals of any level within New York State, northern New Jersey and/or northwestern Pennsylvania, for their public good deeds “outside of the workplace,” will be accepted until June 15 from peers sited within the same geographical territory.

Neither the nominator nor the nominee need be a PIA member, but the nominee’s workplace must be located within the association’s trade territory. This award is not based on title or position and is specifically designed to recognize an employee at any level who meets the medal’s selection criteria.

Nomination forms, notices for employee bulletin boards and other background information are available on PIA’s Web site, www.PIAlliance.org.

The Zenger Medal offers a unique opportunity to honor someone you know who normally is not recognized for their public good deeds “outside” to be so honored “inside” by his or her professional colleagues.

The Franklin Event, which has been held since 1952, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 29 (5:30-10 p.m.) at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.

“Early bird” pricing is in effect for companies wishing to sponsor the gala. Interested parties who sign up by July 2 can get discounted rates. Platinum sponsorships (a reserved table of 10), normally $5,000, are $4,000. Gold sponsorships (a reserved table of five), normally $2,500, are $2,000. Individual tickets are $350 each. The final deadline for all sponsorships is Sept. 3.

Firms or individuals wishing to participate in the event, contact PIA Vice President Vicki Keenan at (908) 233-4124, or vkeenan@PIAlliance.org.
