Regular readers of Printing News probably have noticed some changes over the past several months. The first and most obvious is the change from a weekly to a monthly publishing schedule. The second, and perhaps most important, is the widening scope of news coverage and article topics as we strive to address the information needs of the printing industry nationwide.
While Printing News coverage was once limited to the New York/New Jersey metro area, it has since expanded to cover events across the country. Since the first of the year, I have visited printing companies and attended vendor and association events in Florida and Texas. As I write this, managing editor Denise Gustavson is at Graphics of the Americas (GOA) and FESPA North America in Orlando. She earlier was at Dscoop, the HP users’ group event. Next up is a trip to California for the Vision 3 Summit, and shortly thereafter we will be at the On Demand show in Washington, DC. Immediately on the heels of On Demand, I’ll be on my way to Las Vegas to address the franchisees of PostNet at their annual convention.
New Face, Old Friend
As part of our expanded coverage, we have enhanced our depth of industry knowledge by adding long time industry stalwart Mark Vruno as editor of Printing News and PrintingNews.com. Mark will work with Denise and other members of the Cygnus Graphics Media Group to bring even more in-depth coverage of the commercial printing industry to these pages.
Mark is a 20-year industry veteran who has worked both with leading industry companies such as RR Donnelley, Banta, Agfa, and Fujifilm Graphics Systems and with the industry trade press. He has served as executive editor of Graphic Arts Monthly and Graphic Arts Online. More recently, he was the lead writer for the GRAPH EXPO 2010 Official Show Daily produced by the Cygnus Graphics Media Group. He also has been a regular and valuable contributor to Printing News.
“I grew up with Printing News,” Mark says. “The opportunities are everywhere in the print and graphics industry today. I’m looking forward to reporting on the best, the brightest, and the not so good.”
With more than two decades of industry knowledge, Mark understands where the printing industry has been and where it is today. He also will be able to give Printing News readers the information they need to help steer their companies into the future. He is already in the field at GOA and will be with me and group publisher Kelley Holmes at the Vision 3 Summit.
In the next issue of Printing News, this space will be filled with Mark’s editorial comments and observations and I’m happy to welcome him aboard.
