Printing Industries of America and its Ben Franklin Society are currently accepting nominations for two of its awards. The first, Frederick D. Kagy Education Award of Excellence, will honor an outstanding school program in the graphic communications industry. Nominations for this award are due July 13. The second award is the Naomi Berber Memorial Award, which will honor an outstanding woman in the graphic communications industry. Nominations for this award are due July 3.
The Kagy Award, first presented in 1993, honors the career of Frederick D. Kagy, professor emeritus of the College of Applied Science and Technology, Department of Industrial Technology, Illinois State University. The winning school can select up to $1,000 worth of textbooks published by Printing Industries of America Press.
The Berber Award was established in 1976 and honors the “First Lady of the Foundation,” Naomi Berber, who served as Graphic Arts Technical Foundation’s first administrative director, and was the first woman elected to the Society of Fellows, now known as the Ben Franklin Society. Nominees for the Berber Award must have worked in the graphic communications field for 10 or more years and achieved an outstanding record of accomplishments. Such activities could be in the form of extraordinary leadership, direction and/or support of programs that have furthered the interests of the industry.
The awards will be presented at PIA’s Fall Administrative Meetings, Nov. 12-15, in Charleston, S.C. For more information, contact Chrystal Senay, marketing assistant, at (412) 259-1736, csenay@printing.org or write to Chrystal Senay, 200 Deer Run Rd., Sewickley, PA 15143.
