Highlights from the show floor

With more than 20 exhibitors, GREENspace provides attendees with a variety of products and services to help them to “go green” within their facilities.

ColorBurst (Booth 3041) is showcasing its Digital Inkjet CTP System. This RIP and curing system uses an Epson Professional inkjet printer to print Colorburst’s Separation files to a special metal or poly plate. Rather than using chemicals and lasers to expose and process a CTP plate for use on press, this system uses the standard aqueous inks in the Epson Stylus Pro Printers (4900, 7900, 9900, 7890, and 9890). “Our Plate Press cures the inks with a standard 120V-20A power connection, consuming less power than other 220V plate curing units,” says Larry Spevak, President of ColorBurst.

According to Monika Regina, Vice President, Schmid Rhyner (USA), Inc. (Booth 3039), is highlighting its environmental concept on manufacturing UV and aqueous coatings. These products meet the requirements of the GMP guideline of EuPIA: “Good Manufacturing Practices for the Production of Packaging Inks Formulated for use on the Non-food Contact Surfaces of Food Packaging and Articles intended to come into contact with Food.” For example, Schmid Rhyner’s WESSCO UV coatings contain no volatile organic compounds (VOC) and are free of HAP (hazardous air pollutant) and bisphenol A (BPA) and their derivatives.

Enterprise Group, a Domtar Business (Booth 3135), works closely with OEMs, digital printer manufacturers, and post-processing manufacturers to ensure their products run trouble-free. On display at the booth are its new digital line of products which include ExpressFlo, GraphicFlo, and VividFlo. “ExpressFlo is SFI chain-of-custody certified, while GraphicFlo and VividFlo are both FSC- and Rainforest Alliance-certified,” notes M. Jan Martin, Domtar's Events, Fulfillment & Communications Manager.

Xcel Products (Booth 3235) features several sustainable products, including its TerraSkin XP, a pulp-free product made from large amounts of mineral powder (more than 75%) with a small quantity (less than 25%) of non-toxic resin. TerraSkin is Cradle-to-Cradle Silver certified and recent winner of the Edison Gold Award for sustainability. According to Jodi Haugen, Xcel's Director of Marketing, TerraSkin also is available in thermoform grade making it a sustainable choice for disposable food containers and is FDA approved for food contact.

Neenah Paper Inc. (Booth 3237) Kristin Carpenter, Advertising & Design Manager, says a wide variety of its papers are on display, including premium brands that offer a considerable selection of papers that are Green-e certified, Green Seal certified, Carbon Neutral Plus, and FSC-certified. Additionally, Neenah's sustainable packaging papers—along with samples and swatchbooks—are available.

FloClear LLC (Booth 3035) President Harry Stinson reports that the firm is highlighting its dampening solution recycling units, which allow printers to continuously print without having to dump their solution on a weekly basis.

And William Brandenburg, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Imaging Technologies Inc. (Booth 2937), says the company’s products help printers lower their paper and ink waste—in some cases by as much as 50%.
