MGI (Booth 3619) introduced its newest multi-substrate digital press, the Meteor DP8700 XL, to the world this past June, but it is making its North American debut at GRAPH EXPO.
The Meteor DP8700 XL follows closely in the footsteps of MGI's Meteor DP60 Pro, which was introduced at drupa 2008 and had considerable success at GRAPH EXPO and PRINT, earning consecutive Must See 'em and Encore Must See 'em recognition in 2008-2009 and boasting more than 450 installations worldwide.
While it incorporates the key features that make the Meteor series the most versatile in the industry, including true multi-substrate versatility for paper, plastics and envelopes, laser-safe prints, offset comparable output and no click charge, the Meteor DP8700 XL also includes several new features designed to maximize production and optimize ease of operation.
The Meteor DP8700 XL boasts increased output capabilities for up to 4,260 A4/letter pages per hour and up to 2,280 A3 pages per hour. It continues the tradition pioneered by the Meteor DP60 Pro in offering the largest sheet size among production sheetfed digital presses (up to 13x40 inches in production, up to 13x47 inches via manual bypass).
In addition to increased productivity, the Meteor DP8700 XL delivers superior output quality at 3600 dpi (8 bit printing) and more than 20 line screen variations ranging from 95 to 270 lpi, in both traditional and stochastic modes. Users also have the option to choose up to two different line screens within the same print job, maximizing quality for both images and text/vector graphics. The powerful Fiery System 9r2 RIP for maximum processing power and graphics management. Support for VPS & PPML 2.2, as well as Adobe PostScript Level 3, TIFF and PDF, APPE (Adobe PDF Print Engine), plus JDF compliance.
A new auto-adjusting offset feeder table eliminates skew and keeps registration consistent at an industry-leading ±0.2mm (L-R). Harnessing the Meteor DP8700 XL's exclusive envelope capabilities, the EnvelopExpress Pro envelope feeder features an updated design for the Meteor, increasing production capabilities and improving job efficiency.
