Launched at GRAPH EXPO 2010, the National Association for Printing Leadership (Booth 3649) WorkPlan for Success online printing industry business development program has doubled in size and scope over the last 11 months. It now comprises six comprehensive sections that cover management issues from Strategic Planning and Sales to Marketing and Human Resources. The sixth unit, covering Operations, is being released at this year’s show. Attendees may view a demonstration of the interactive program and its newest component at the NAPL booth.
The unique WorkPlan for Success program gives every NAPL corporate member instant access to tools for handling a wide range of business issues. Built on the best practices determined through NAPL’s industry standard Management Plus System, NAPL Research Center studies, and NAPL Business Advisory Team field research, WorkPlan for Success includes guidelines, templates, and step-by-step, hands-on applications company managers and executives can use and customize for nearly every area of their own company management.
The program “not only informs our members about what they can do to implement best practices, but gives them the tools to do so,” says NAPL President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph P. Truncale, Ph.D. All WorkPlan units are available 24/7 via the members-only section of NAPL’s website (www.napl.org). Users may download individual sections and follow links to additional forms and related information. All sections are updated regularly.
Seven step plan
WorkPlan for Success was unveiled with sections on Strategic Planning, Financial Performance, and Sales. Earlier this year a Marketing component was added. Designed as a functional document, the Marketing section balances basic elements and detailed information so that a company with or without a dedicated marketing person can use it to complete an entire marketing planning and implementation process.
At the heart of the unit is the Seven Step Plan for Successful Marketing—a transformation plan to help a company become a marketing-centric organization by defining its marketing objectives, determining market identity, mapping marketing strategies, executing a marketing plan, and evaluating results. Worksheets help users examine their own goals, choose the right strategy and plan tactical approaches that will work best for their specific business.
The most recent WorkPlace addition, a Human Resources/Leadership Development component, was introduced in July. The 100-plus-page unit covers topics such as creating an employee policy manual, strategic hiring initiatives, new employee orientation, measuring employee performance, and terminations/layoffs. The hiring section alone, for example, includes a job description template, resume assessment grid, suggested initial interview questions, reference check table, and reference interview form.
The Leadership section shows how to identify leadership development needs, put an organizational structure in place, develop leadership strengths, and structure a company board of advisors.
To help members derive the greatest benefit from the program, NAPL has been presenting a series of free, one-hour webinars introducing different WorkPlan sections and walking attendees through various exercises or worksheets. During each program, members may speak directly with NAPL experts, and members of the NAPL Business Advisory team are always available for one-on-one help.
