More than 2,700 entries were submitted for the judging of the 2011 Premier Print Awards, the world’s most prestigious international print competition. The judges for the competition consist of a team of distinguished professionals from the graphic arts community. They come from around the world and are chosen for their extensive knowledge of the printing process.
This year, the judges worked tirelessly over two days to evaluate the entries and determine which pieces should receive an award. The 2011 judging resulted in 103 Best of Category Awards, 200 Awards of Recognition, and 569 Certificates of Merit.
Those which were named Best of Category, the top prize, received the Benny statue at the Premier Print Awards and InterTech Technology Awards Gala that took place last night, at the Marriott Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile. The Benny statue is a universally recognized symbol for excellence in printing, and receiving the award is one of the most coveted achievements for any printer.
At the gala, the 2011 Best of Show was announced for the first time, and it went to Offset Alpine Printing/IPMG of Australia for its piece, “Offset Alpine Printing - Capabilities +.” Also revealed was the Best of Show first runner-up, Fac Form Impressos LTDA of Brazil, for its promotion kit, “Fac Form Fac;” and the Best of Show second runner-up, Artron Enterprise (Group) Limited of China (Hong Kong), for printing of “The Grand Shambhala.”
Taking home the Gold prize for most number of awards received (Certificates of Merit, Awards of Recognition, and Best of Category combined) was Offset Multicolor S.A. de C.V. of Mexico The Silver went to C.J. Graphics Inc. of Toronto and the Bronze to Artron Enterprise (Group) Limited.
In addition, recipients of the 2011 InterTech Technology Awards were announced and presented with the coveted InterTech Star. The InterTech Technology Awards honor the development of technologies predicted to have a major impact in the printing industry. Printing Industries of America sponsors the awards in order to spotlight the wide range of technol—ogies that contribute to the advancement of techniques and processes used in the graphic arts.

Not at a booth, but most definitely worth noting, is NPES’ InterTech award. As coordinator of U.S. representation to the ISO technical committee on graphic technology, NPES won for ISO 16612-2 Graphic technology—Variable data exchange—Part 2. Using PDF/X-4 and PDF/X-5 simplifies and brings new capabilities to production workflows for personalized documents (e.g., direct mail and transpromo).
