The 2011 SGIA Expo will be held in New Orleans October 19-21. Plan to arrive in the Big Easy a day early, however, to attend a pre-expo business conference: “Break Out of Business as Usual, Position Your Business to Sell Beyond the Print”. Pooling the resources of four of the industry’s most respected consultants, the half-day event should be a top priority for business owners. SGIA says the conference will “give you the tools you need to take your company to a new level by discovering the core competencies of your business and increasing competitiveness through value-added services.”
Featured speakers are Dave Fellman of David Fellman & Associates, Brian Hart and Clayton Marsh of Hart Consulting Services, and Mark Coudray of Coudray Graphic Technologies. The cost is $149 for SGIA members and $199 for non-members.
These consultants will lead attendees through an examination of current business models in an effort to help you find the formula that best suits your company in order to build a solid and profitable future. They will help you learn to identify and maximize the benefits of your firm’s core competencies. And they’ll offer real world advice on how to sell value-added services that reach beyond print, allowing you to avoid the pitfall of commoditization.
You’ll also learn how to evaluate prospects and customers to find the clients who will keep you profitable by buying what you sell. Get tips on how to structure a sales compensation program that is attractive and sustainable in today’s marketplace. And finally, you’ll walk away with tools and techniques for marketing your business that will help you stand out from the competition.
There is also a multitude of educational opportunities during the 2011 SGIA Expo. Sessions are classified into five tracks: Graphics & Sign, Garment Decoration, Industrial Imaging, Graphics Installers, and Business Management.
In the Graphics & Sign track there will be 10 sessions on Wednesday, October 19, including a free session titled “Graphics & Sign: Better than Ever” by Jeff Burton and Ray Greenwood of SGIA. The track will feature eight sessions on Thursday, October 20.
Those interested in the Garment Decoration track will be able to choose among seven tracks on Wednesday and another seven on Thursday. Wednesday’s tracks include “New and Improved Garment Decoration” by SGIA’s Johnny Shell, which is a free session.
The Industrial Imaging track offers two sessions on Wednesday and four on Thursday. Graphics Installers can take advantage of one session on Wednesday and three on Thursday. The track for Business Management provides nine sessions; four on Wednesday and five on Thursday.
On the SGIA Expo show floor, attendees will see equipment, software, and printing solutions from around the globe. Products on display will address digital imaging, screen printing, digital signage, finishing, textiles, POP, signs, decals, garments, outdoor advertising, transit advertising, vehicle graphics, environmental graphics, fine art, and even the cutting edge technologies of printed electronics and membrane switch.
On Wednesday, when the show floor closes, join fellow SGIA members at “Booze & Schmooze” networking receptions in the true New Orleans spirit of “Laissez les bons temps rouler!”
Thursday starts with the Breakfast Keynote and ends with the SGIA Dinner Party. The subject of the morning’s keynote is “Politics, the Economy and the Specialty Imaging Industry—How Today’s Current Events Impact Tomorrow’s Profits,” presented by special guest speaker Gene Marks. Marks is a business management columnist, author, speaker, and business owner. You may recognize his name from the weekly columns he writes for The New York Times and Forbes. Marks is a CPA and regular guest on national radio and TV talk shows including those on CNBC, FOX News, Fox Business Channel, and MSNBC.
The SGIA Dinner and Awards Party is the perfect place to enjoy dinner and cocktails with your industry peers before a final day at the trade show. Spend the evening celebrating in a venue that overlooks the panorama of Bourbon Street. Awards will be presented for the Product of the Year, Golden Image winning entries, and ASPT (Academy of Screen Printing Technology) Tom Frecska Student Printing Competition.
