Q: What is EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) and is it an additional opportunity for me to drive new revenue?

A: Your opportunity depends on the type of customers that you serve and prospects that you wish to target. EDDM—Every Door Direct Mail—while not personalized mail, is a great service for certain small business mailers. One of the biggest benefits is being able to send out a flat-size mail piece for a very low cost (currently 14.2 cents). It allows you and your customer the ability to reach a lot of new prospects easily and cost effectively. You don’t need an address database; rather, you are able to use the USPS online tool to target an area you want to saturate: by ZIP code, city, or neighborhood.

Become familiar with the EDDM rules and recommend this idea to your customers who want to get known within a focused geography. Ideal businesses for EDDM include florists, fitness, bakery, realtors, restaurants, dry cleaners, political campaigns, and any local retail establishment.

You will have a solution that will allow your customers to reach more of their customers at greatly reduced rates. The postage savings can be used for more printing. Once you begin offering EDDM, be sure to let the USPS know you have these capabilities and they will likely give you leads for new customers!
