Where did the year go? It’s a question I ask every now and then when I finally get a chance to take a breath and look at where I’ve ended up in the ever-moving timeline of life. These occasional checks, however, really give me the opportunity to take a quick assessment of how I and our brands stand—against where I thought they’d be—and where I’m headed.
Looking back over the first half of 2012 has only confirmed in my mind that it’s been a busy year. Between drupa (the monster of all trade shows), a calendar full of business travel, 12 issues of Wide-Format Imaging, and a brand new full editorial calendar with new original feature stories posting every Monday morning to MyPRINTResource.com—in addition to the daily news updates we've always provided—this year has been a downright whirlwind of activity. Even though MPR only launched in April 2011, all the metrics look good and it’s getting more and more traction in the market. Here’s a hint to help you navigate all of the content on the site: If you just want to get the wide-format related news and new product announcements point your browser to www.myprintresource.com/topics/industry-segments/wide-format-inkjet-printand then on the right side (just under the navigation bar) you can subscribe to the RSS feed which will give you only the info in the wide-format segment of the market.
If you’re anything like me—or like how I usually prefer to be—I already have my eyes set on the future, looking ahead to the last few months of the year and into 2013. So while it might only be the middle of summer, my brain is already anticipating changes to my carefully constructed schedule because of trade show travel (SignsNow Annual Convention, GRAPH EXPO, and SGIA 2012) and inclement winter weather. But because it’s the summer, it’s almost natural to kick back a little and relax. The kids are on vacation and it seems we all want to sit back and take a much-needed breather from the hectic pace life usually throws at us. But the summer months might be the best time to re-evaluate your own yearly business plan to see how you’re doing and what you have left to accomplish this year—and make the appropriate adjustments now before time gets away from us, as it always does.
I know for me, the next major project I’ll be focusing on for WFI is the annual State of the Industry Report, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the industry stands. Additionally, I’ll be opening up the nomination forms for the Top Products Awards (awarded at the ISA 2013 show in April), to be sure all the latest and greatest products launched in 2012 are included. Want to get a jump on either of these? Drop me an email and I’ll give you all the details.
