MGI Digital Presses Make US Debut at GRAPH EXPO

At drupa, MGI introduced the newest member of the Meteor family – the Meteor DP8700 S, which is making its official US debut at GRAPH EXPO.

MGI’s Meteor series of digital presses has long been regarded as the most versatile in the industry. At drupa, MGI introduced the newest member of the Meteor family—the Meteor DP8700 S, which is making its official U.S. debut at GRAPH EXPO in Booth 3623. Joining the popular Meteor DP8700 XL, the Meteor DP8700 S brings the trademark quality and flexibility of the Meteor line to a new market segment.

Both the Meteor DP8700 S and Meteor DP8700 XL have print speeds of up to 4,260 full color A4/letter pages per hour, ideal for maximizing productivity. The Meteor DP8700 series produces stunning print quality at 3600 dpi and up to 270 lpi, with 25 line screen options, including stochastic.

Users will appreciate the ability to use two different line screens per job: one optimized for text/vector images, and one optimized for graphics. This allows jobs to print in the highest possible quality, with no “trade-off” between text and image sharpness.

Both presses also have MGI’s trademark laser-safe capabilities, meaning prints can be re-run through a desktop laser printer with no toner smudging or ghosting, ideal for letterhead and envelopes.

As with all digital devices, the Meteor DP8700 series harnesses the power of VDP (variable data printing) via the powerful Fiery print server for personalization of a wide range of projects. Compatibility with standard VDP languages, including PPML, VPS, and FreeForm makes the Meteor a perfect tool in any VDP workflow, be it InDesign, XMPie, FusionPro, PrintShop Mail, DirectSmile, Bartender, and a host of others. Of course, all Meteor presses embody MGI’s no click charge philosophy, enabling users to take control of their volumes and maximize their productivity.

The Meteor DP8700 S is an ideal digital solution for users looking to add capabilities or capacity to an existing workflow or searching for their first digital press. It accommodates sheet sizes from 3.94x5.83" up to 13x19" and weights from 70 to 300 gsm on a wide range of papers (standard offset, and digital), specific synthetics, and envelopes.

An ideal press for full color and/or personalized envelope production, the Meteor DP8700 S can print up to 3,300 #10 envelopes per hour, also accommodating other popular sizes such as 6x9", booklet, etc. With a total input capacity of 8,300 sheets in five drawers (including two high-capacity trays) and automatic duplexing, the Meteor DP8700 S is a workhorse that is an ideal fit for any shop.

Taking true versatility to a new level, the Meteor DP8700 XL features the widest sheet size range among production color digital presses, from 4x6" up to 13x40" in production (up to 13x47" via manual bypass). Super Format print capabilities are ideally suited for book covers, calendars, brochures, panoramic, fold-out pages, and many more applications.

The Meteor DP8700 XL also features the broadest array of compatible substrates including papers (standard offset, and digital), plastics/synthetics, and envelopes, up to 14 pt./350 gsm for paper and 400 microns/16 pt. for synthetics. The exclusive offset feeder table and air feed system ensures precise registration of 0.2mm (L-R), 0.5mm (F-B, page-page), and the Infrared lamp pre-warms substrates to optimize print surface and maximize quality.
