Printing Industries’ Premier Print Awards Featuring the Intertech™ Technology Awards and web2awards

The 2012 Premier Print Awards Gala, featuring the Intertech Technology Awards and web2awards was held last night at the Marriott Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile to recognize the distinguished winners from some of our industry’s most esteemed print competitions. This year’s Gala honored not only the 2012 Premier Print Award winners but the recipients of the 2012 InterTech Technology Awards and, as a new feature, the recipients of the web2awards.

This year, more than 2,800 entries were submitted for the judging of the Premier Print Awards competition. The judges were comprised of a team of distinguished industry professionals from the graphic arts community. They come from around the world and were chosen based on their extensive knowledge of the printing industry and printing process.

The judges dedicated two full days exclusively devoted to evaluating the entries and determining which pieces should receive a Premier Print Award—a Best of Category, the highest honor; an Award of Recognition; and the Certificate of Merit. After the judging process was complete, the judges awarded 109 Best of Category awards, 243 Awards of Recognition, and 895 Certificates of Merit.

Those that were named Best of Category were honored with the Benny statue at last night’s gala in front of an impressive audience of top industry printers. The Benny statue is a universally recognized symbol for excellence in printing, and receiving the awards is one of the most coveted achievements for any printer.

During the gala, the 2012 Best of Show was announced for the first time. This year’s Best of Show went to Body of Work of Australia for the piece titled “Body of Work 2012 Collection.” Also revealed at the gala were the three Best of Show runners-up:

• First runner-up—Premier Press of Portland, OR, for its piece in the Art Books category, titled “BHM Ever Higher Books”

• Second runner-up—C&C Offset Printing Co., Ltd of China, for its piece in the Hard Cover Trade Books, Journals, and Other Books category, titled “Roberto Polo The Eye”

• Third runner-up—Grupo Grfico Romo, S.A. de C.V. of Mexico, for its piece in the Product Catalogs category, titled “Catalogo de Productos Aniversario Andrea”

The gold, silver, and bronze awards were also presented at the gala. These awards are given to the top three companies in the competition that have been honored with the most number of combined awards—Best of Category, Award of Recognition, and Certificate of Merit. The Gold prize went to Offset Multicolor S.A. de C.V. of Mexico. Silver went to Artron Enterprise (Group) Limited of China, and the bronze award went to C.J. Graphics Inc. of Canada.

In addition, recipients of the 2012 InterTech Technology Award and web2awards were announced and presented during the evenings elegant and festive events.

The InterTech Technology Awards honor the development of technologies predicted to have a major impact in the printing industry. Recipients of the InterTech Technology Awards receive the coveted InterTech Star. This year, there were 12 recipients of the award.

The web2awards competition recognizes outstanding print-related websites in the graphic communications industry. Recipients of the web2awards receive an impressive glass-cut web2award. The 2012 competition had a total of eight recipients. Celebrating the recipients of the web2awards at the gala has introduced a new dynamic to the evening and award presentation.

A booklet showcasing all of the entries in the 2012 InterTech Technology Awards competition and a booklet dedicated to the Premier Print Award winners are both available at the Printing Industries of America Booth 4045. The 2012 Awards Gala was a night to remember—a true celebration of print and innovation.
