Within the prepress/software pavilion, X-Rite Pantone is spotlighting its eXact solution for color measurement. The proprietary, portable spectrophotometer is a Must See ’Em award winner at PRINT 13. Completely customizable, eXact can be set up to position key elements in the order most likely to be needed by individual users (including press operators and operations managers), giving users instant access to the tools they need, often in a single click, via a color graphical user interface. This improves operator productivity, removes opportunity for human error, and results in increased color accuracy.
With eXact’s BestMatch function, press operators can more easily keep ink colors on target even before color shifts are visible, says X-Rite. From a single click, operators can see density information as well as recommendations for adjustment of ink to achieve the best match throughout the press run. Integration of multiple Pantone libraries offers an easy way to accurately measure spot colors.
Use eXact to quickly measure and understand color and status relative to standards, allowing operators to manage and understand expectations at press, and know what is—and what is not—achievable. With an integrated calibration tile built in, operators can ensure optimum measurement accuracy at all time.
When used with NetProfiler 3, eXact can manage and monitor color performance on an enterprise level, integrating across the color network. Also, when combined with X-Rite’s Color iQC Print, InkFormulation, and PantoneLIVE, the tool enables the validation and management of specified color across a variety of printing technologies and substrates.
EFI-Metamation Automated Impositioning for Monarch
Launched earlier this year, EFI Monarch Planner software sports a new feature that integrates with another solution, called Imp, from India-based Metamation Graphic Software for automated job impositioning. Although not situated within the prepress/software pavilion, this product demo is worth the trip over to Booth 2602.
Monarch is a flexible, “intelligent”, and automated print production and management solution for large, single, and multi-plant operations. Metamation’s Imp version 188.8.131.52, adapted from the sheet metal industry, is the software to which Monarch Planner is integrating. Geared toward the commercial, book, and packaging print segments, Imp can be used for flat, rectangular imposition creation. It is a standalone tool or can be integrated to Monarch Planner version 2013.1. EFI’s new Planner interface finds parts to gang, then selects presses and paper stocks. Once submitted to Imp, via faceless integration, Planner saves and automatically creates a Press Plan. A single interface drives both printing and die-cutting.
Compared to the manual alternative, Metamation Automated Impositioning for Monarch saves material and time via efficient, ganged impositions in Planner for one-offs. The integrated Imp software is designed to simplify and automate the process of creating cost-effective, print-ready layouts for commercial and packaging printers. Using sophisticated algorithms, it offers a one-click solution to create imposed layouts for book work, ganging, and packaging jobs on sheetfed as well as web-fed presses.
Hot-folder automation is used to produce layouts from a XML/CSV file without any human intervention. Imp constantly evaluates the layouts against the constraints defined by printing, folding, diecutting, and other finishing process—and keeps the user informed of any problems.
