Air Motion Systems (Booth 870) officially announced the "go-live" successes of multiple new US customers for its award-winning XP Series LED UV curing systems for sheetfed offset printers at the opening of Graph Expo 2014.
“Customers are flocking to LED UV around the world because of its fast economical installation process and the benefits it can drive in the pressroom, which include elimination of spray powder, graphic enhancement with effect coatings and varnishes, and pressroom productivity gains” said Steve Metcalf, President and CEO of AMS.
"Our first wave of adopters in the US market range from high-end commercial graphics to trade houses, to specialty and packaging printers. And because our XP Series LED systems can be installed on any type of press, and in any location, there is virtually no limit to the press make or format size we can convert".
LED adopters are seeing tremendous productivity gains by increasing press speeds on difficult materials, eliminating spray powder and problems with scratching and marking, removing heat, reducing protective coatings and moving offset sheets straight into post-press at the speed of their digital presses.
"We figure it has increased our productivity by 30%, just on the press side" remarked Jason Thysse, Owner of Thysse Printing Services, who runs AMS XP7 LED on a Ryobi 750 4-Color. "We can't even begin to calculate the savings in bindery. I can't imagine printing conventional again".
Accordinng to Jim Dobrzynski of Crossmark Graphics, "New markets have opened up because of LED" who installed AMS XP7 LED on a Komori GL640 press. “And its not just because of the eco-benefits. We run a lot of styrene and can turn sheets immediately without any distortion".
New customers announced today are in full daily produciton with LED and represent a very diverse group of printers across the United States with 30 to 40-inch formats on a combination of straight presses and perfectors, and include:
- Papercone, Louisville, KY (on a Heidelberg SM 102)
- Crossmark Graphics, Brookfield, WI (on a Komori GL40)
- Corporate Electronic Stationery, Troy, MI (on a Komori L-28, Mitsubishi Tandem 8P)
- Carlson Print Group, Eden Prairie, MN (on a MR 700)
- UBS Printing Group, Corona, CA (on a KBA Rapida 106)
- Thysse Printing Services, Oregon, WI (on a Ryobi 750)
- PLI Cards, Asheville, NC (on a Komori GL40)
- Royle Printing, Sun Prairie, WI (on a KBA Rapida 105)
"Why would anyone not print with LED?" asked Jim McDonald, Owner of Corporate Electronic Stationery, who runs AMS XP7 LEDs on both a Komori Lithrone 28-inch press, and his 40-inch Mitsubishi Tandem press. "We would like to switch over our entire pressroom".
With the announcement of its latest XP7 Series LED system for Sheetfed Offset, AMS is rapidly expanding its LED UV customer base, and is reporting more than 100 LED systems installed globally in sheetfed offset alone - more than any other manufacturer. Other markets for AMS LED solutions including Flexographic Narrow Web and Ink Jet, where the opportunity is growing at a similar pace.
"The benefits of LED-UV curing technology extend far beyond the traditional bounds of UV systems, and are reaching a whole new clientele" added Metcalf.
AMS is exhibiting at Graph Expo in the GREEN PAVILION, booth 870 and is showcasing numerous LED printed samples and installation case studies from around the world.
