KBA Rapida 164

Product From KBA North America

At drupa last year, KBA celebrated the official launch of the Rapida 145, its latest series of high-performance large-format presses in format VI (106 x 145 cm).

In the meantime, almost 40 customers have taken delivery of the new presses, which are engineered for production speeds up to 17,000 sph. At the beginning of 2013, but without pomp or a special welcome party, the Rapida 145 was joined by its almost identically equipped and automated “big sister”, the KBA Rapida 164 in format VIIb (120.5 x 164 cm). With a maximum production speed of 15,000 sph (with high-speed package) and extremely short makeready times, KBA has once again redefined the yardstick for this format class. The new Rapida 164 supersedes the vastly successful Rapida 162 and 162a series, which could rightly be described as institutions on the book printing and packaging markets. They were first presented in 1995 and had received several technical makeovers over the intervening years. With the Rapida 164, practically all the automation solutions and highlights of the medium-format makeready world champion Rapida 106 are now also available in format VII.

KBA Rapida 105 Perfecting Press

Product From KBA North America

The medium-format Rapida 105 was unveiled by KBA in November 2011. This new sheetfed offset press has significant differences to previous generations.

The Rapida 105 is based on the same technological platform as the high-tech Rapida 106 that, with a maximum output of up to 20,000 sph and its makeready times, defines the benchmarks in medium format. Its intelligent automation concept, various configurations and optional features available combined with a maximum production speed of 16,000sph (17,000sph with the HS speed enhancement package), the internationally successful Rapida 105 targets printers with limited in-vestment budgets. Since Drupa 2012, the new press has been available and sold as a long perfecting press for 4-back-4 and 5-back-5 printing. Its sheet travel systems and maximum sheet format makes its superior to presses from other well-known manufacturers, who still print with single-size impression cylinders without washing units.

KBA North America (Booth 2227) will demonstrate the KBA Rapida 145, a 57-inch six-color press—first unveiled at Drupa—with a new coater, triple-length extended delivery and automated pile logistics. It is equipped with these features:

KBA-Metronic betaJET

Product From KBA North America

As a specialist for digital and analogue marking and coding systems, KBA-Metronic offers another solution for the packaging branch. The betaJET thermal inkjet unit integrated into the udaFORMAXX feeding system for sleeves, cartons, and the like is freely programmable. As such it is suitable for a diversity of uses. For example: addressing applications, as an anti-counterfeiting module in the pharmaceuticals industry, for brand protection, or in just-in-time manufacturing in the textiles and cosmetics branches.

KBA Varius 80

Product From KBA North America

The new Varius 80 is a modular, variable-format web offset press. It implements the same waterless technology as the Genius 52, with short-train inking units and UV drying. This combination achieves excellent print quality on flexible, non-absorbent substrates with very low start-up waste.

KBA Rapida 76

In the half-format segment, the 15,000sph, 530x750mm (20.86x29.53 inch) Rapida 75E unveiled at Ipex 2010 has been upgraded in terms of sheet travel, feeder, delivery, and many other technical details. It is now offered with the new ErgoTronic console, QualiTronic inline color measurement and control system, and a UV accessory package. It is also now available in a four-back-four perfector version.

KBA Rapida 106 Upgrades

Product From KBA North America

The makeready world champion press KBA Rapida 106 now offers an optional package, which raises the maximum production speed to 20,000 sph in straight printing and 18,000 sph in perfecting mode.

The KBA flagship in medium-format is available in a 12-unit configuration for four-color print and inline coating on both sides of the sheet. Among the many innovations incorporated into this already highly automated press, particular mention should be made of the new coater tower with simultaneous form changing (DriveTronic SFC), automated anilox roller exchange with AniloxLoader, the further optimized AirTronic delivery for exact pile formation at even the highest speeds, new modules for online and inline quality monitoring and control, and a new ErgoTronic console with wall screen, as on the large-format presses.
