Digital Ink System

Press technology leader QuadTech, Inc. has added a Digital Ink System to its suite of color, register, and inspection controls for web offset printers.

The Digital Ink System replaces conventional ink fountains with computer-controlled ink injectors. This provides much more accurate density control across the printed image by metering the precise volume of ink required in each control zone consistently, at all press speeds. Besides greatly improved ink density, the system eliminates the costs of contamination from open fountains—resulting in significant and immediate savings in ink, paper, and maintenance. Upgrading an existing open fountain to volume metering—or ordering a new press with QuadTech’s Digital Ink System specified—can quickly return the initial investment.

QuadTech and System Brunner now offer printers the ability to achieve more consistent color fidelity by specifying a strategy for different quality targets and image-related criteria.

QuadTech’s Color Control System with SpectralCam, along with System Brunner’s INSTRUMENT FLIGHT are already proven technology, with hundreds of web offset installations worldwide. SpectralCam delivers a full range of print attribute data – including L*a*b* and TVI – for precise color management. INSTRUMENT FLIGHT + L*a*b* software places priority on gray balance and TVI by taking more than 30 printing attributes into account.

The new, enhanced version of the company's Inspection System with SpectralCam enables continuous, in-line monitoring of virtually all web-fed package materials, including transparent and translucent substrates.
