2011 SFI Annual Conference
Improving Forests and Communities through “The Bigger Picture” at 2011 SFI Annual Conference
No other forest certification program matches the broad scope of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI), and the theme of SFI’s 16th annual conference – The Bigger Picture: Conservation. Integrity. Community – highlights this. The conference will be held September 13-15 in Burlington, VT, and will be attended by more than 200 delegates from across North America, including land managers; conservation and community groups; academics; aboriginal leaders, and global forest product customers.
The conference will explore the many ways collaboration among forest stakeholders leads to improved forest management, public education, and implementation of the SFI Standard, the largest single forest certification standard in the world. The conference will feature remarks by SFI President and CEO Kathy Abusow, as well as a keynote by Larry Selzer, President and CEO of The Conservation Fund, an award winning non-profit ENGO. Additional speakers and panelists include Scott McDougall, President & CEO of Terrachoice; Mary White, Director, Sustainable Package Sourcing at PepsiCo Inc.; and Adam Grant, Senior Associate at the World Resources Institute, among others. Expert panelists will examine issues and topics such as:
• Green Building
• Aboriginal Partnerships
• What’s Ahead for Forest Certification
• Conservation and Community Partnerships
• Informed Choices throughout the Supply Chain

About SFI Inc. (www.sfiprogram.org)
SFI Inc. is an independent non-profit charitable organization, and is solely responsible for maintaining, overseeing and improving the internationally recognized Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program. Across North America, more than 193 million acres/78 million hectares are certified to the SFI forest management standard, making it the largest single standard in the world. SFI chain-of-custody certification tells buyers the percentage of fibre from certified forests, certified sourcing and/or post-consumer recycled content. The SFI program’s unique fibre sourcing requirements promote responsible forest management on all suppliers’ lands. SFI Inc. is governed by a three-chamber board of directors representing environmental, social and economic sectors equally.
