Screen Truepress Jet2500UV's Multi-Layer and See-Through Graphics Capabilities Add Value to Wide-Format Projects

Visitors to SGIA Expo 2011 can see impressive value-added special effects, high-quality three-dimensional products and stunning display graphics in the Screen (USA) booth. The Screen exhibition area will be packed with creative samples produced on the latest generations of the Truepress Jet2500UV and Truepress Jet1600UV-F2. Print samples will demonstrate the application versatility using the widest possible range of substrates.

“Multi-layer printing is now a standard feature of the Truepress Jet2500UV, giving sign and display producers exciting, high-impact print applications that open up lucrative market opportunities,” said Sean Dawson, large-format and workflow product manager. “It literally adds new levels of flexibility and quality to an array of projects.”

The Truepress Jet2500UV can print up to seven image layers without feeding the media a second time through the machine. Multiple layers of ink improve the performance of window stickers and backlit displays. In addition, the increased ink thickness creates three-dimensional images and embossed or relief patterns on flexible and rigid materials.

Multiple layers allow images to be viewed from both sides of transparent material with no show-through. Take double-sided window stickers, for instance. The Truepress Jet2500UV prints the image layer, then white, then black, then white again before the final image layer is printed. The image and text can be seen as they normally appear, and each image can be different in order to show different messages when viewed from inside and outside the window.

Applying a layer of white ink between two layers of the same image enhances the day-and-night effect of backlit displays. The added layer boosts the ink density for when the image is illuminated, yet ensures that the image remains vibrant when the display light is switched off. A layer of white ink printed below the image layer also provides a relief effect.

See-through graphics

Screen has introduced another new technology for creating high-impact visual effects: automatic generation of see-through graphics. See-through graphics can be printed on transparent film and then attached to store windows, public transportation windows, interior glass partitions or other clear surfaces. The glass continues to function as a window while also serving as a display surface for advertising. It is possible to display a different graphic on each side. This enables advertisements to suit variations in lighting conditions between the inside and outside of a store.

See-through graphics are created by leaving certain sections of the film surface blank in a dot or slit pattern in the design data. The types and sizes of the dots and slits are selected according to the desired use. Operators simply select the see-through graphics option for printing.
