To meet the needs of its diverse client base, Monsen Engineering, Inc. has installed three HP Designjet T7100 Printers, taking advantage of the devices' versatility and consistency to phase out the shop's toner-based printers.
Founded by Roger Monsen in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1974, Monsen Engineering first sold dust brushes, drafting pencils and parallel rules. To help keep pace with significant advancements in the design/build industry Monsen Engineering has continued to invest in key areas such as technology. Recently, the reprographic division decided to replace its toner-based printers, which were expensive to operate and unreliable.
"We've watched inkjet evolve and become more and more attractive, so investing in HP Designjet technology just made sense for us," said Richard Monsen, president, Monsen Engineering.

According to James Monsen, vice president of large-format printing sales, the HP Designjet T7100 Printers help Monsen Engineering meet the expectations of a wide range of clients, including architects and engineers, mining companies, government agencies and home and commercial construction companies.
"Our clients are looking for our reprographics shop to be more flexible with different file types and media options," said James Monsen. "They're demanding quicker turnaround times and higher-resolution color output."
The versatility of the HP Designjet T7100 Printers has streamlined Monsen Engineering's reprographic operation, enabling the replacement of some of its toner machines. Features such as the printers' three media rolls, available as an upgrade from the two included automatic rolls, give Monsen Engineering the capability to switch among a variety of media without slowing down. Compatible software bundles and an Es-te stacker have also allowed for the configuration of each printer to precisely meet the shop's needs.
Value and Versatility in Color
Before Monsen Engineering acquired the HP Designjet T7100 Printers, the operations staff inserted color pages one by one for projects that required both color and monochromatic printing throughout the document set. With the HP Designjet T7100 Printers' ability to produce crisp, accurate computer-aided design (CAD) drawings in mono and cost-effective color, similar jobs take less time and are completed more accurately, helping Monsen Engineering to grow.
"We anticipate more color CAD printing in the future, and we're well positioned to make that transition when the market demands it," said James Monsen.

Monsen Engineering recently put its HP Designjet T7100 Printers to the test on a project with the LaPorte Group in downtown Salt Lake City. The project, which included both residential and commercial space, required detailed, accurate plans and technology that could produce printed output quickly as changes were made.
With the growing demand for quick-turn reprographics, Monsen Engineering often breaks up jobs between printers, a solution unavailable with toner-based machines since print quality often did not match from printer to printer. The HP Designjet T7100 Printers produce consistent results no matter how the job is divided among the devices, creating an opportunity to tackle large projects.
