Van Gennep and Aquafadas Enter Strategic Alliance to Join Editorial Print Publishing with Tablet and Mobile Apps Publishing

Van Gennep, a world leader in editorial planning and publishing, is entering into a global agreement with Aquafadas, the leader in tablet and mobile app publishing. Van Gennep will continue to focus on editorial planning and workflow, flatplanning and magazine layout, while Aquafadas will link to the information store of Van Gennep and allow publishers to create tablet/mobile versions of their magazines with a few simple clicks.

In the fast-evolving world of complex, multichannel publishing, the idea of Publishing Now! is becoming the new reality. Magazine production is facing the challenge of unlocking content to the web and rapidly producing tablet/mobile app versions of publications that correspond to the printed magazine. At the same time, publishing is increasingly interfacing with social media, adding an additional layer of workflow complexity.

Van Gennep has always been the strategic vendor for leading publishers in Europe, and has an impressive customer portfolio, including Prisma Presse (France), Sanoma Media (Belgium), Bauer Media (Germany, France and Spain), and Hearst Magazines Netherlands - all number one players in their market. This strategic alliance will strengthen Van Gennep’s market position further.

“We listened to our customers and analyzed the market carefully,” says Ton Van Gennep, CEO at Van Gennep. “What we observed was a real need to deliver tools that can publish magazine content directly to all media channels, including tablets and other evolving devices. Our customers made it clear what their solution of choice on the market is, and as a result, we are today delighted to announce the successful outcome of a new partnership with Aquafadas, where we are delivering content from our Van Gennep platform to the Aquafadas engine for mobile publishing.”

Ton continues: “Van Gennep has a long history of taking customer preferences very seriously, and the market has expressed a clear preference for this joint solution, based on openness of standards and cost-efficient execution. Our software has already been widely recognized for leadership in magazine publishing, as well for print and web. As a leading player in our industry, the strategic alliance with Aquafadas is another great plus for our value proposition to the market.”

Claudia Zimmer, CEO at Aquafadas, adds: “It's of key importance for publishers to be able to adopt a digital publishing strategy today in a flexible, easy way, without the need to go through a steep learning curve. And they need to couple this with advanced sales and advertising tools in order to create a new, fast growing and profitable ecosystem in the digital sphere.”

“The Aquafadas solution is not just limited to fully integrated authoring tools in Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress. It can also be connected and integrated in a totally flexible way with the different editorial workflow systems and e-commerce solutions publishers already have in place in their company. This means that companies can start publishing digital versions to tablets, mobile and beyond in next to no time, using the tools they are already familiar with.”

“Thanks to this flexible model, a fast growing number of major press and book publishers such as Lagardère Active, Reader’s Digest and Egmont, amongst others, have already decided to partner with Aquafadas and Van Gennep. The integrated solution, linking Van Gennep’s PlanSystem and Aquafadas DPS, is already available. In the near future, Aquafadas and Van Gennep will further evolve this offering based on feedback from the market, and continue to provide exciting new opportunities for the cross-media publishing world.”
