Consolidated Graphics Purchases 10 HP Indigo 10000 Digital Presses

HP has announced that Consolidated Graphics Inc. (CGX) has purchased 10 HP Indigo 10000 Digital Presses.

HP has announced that Consolidated Graphics Inc. (CGX) has purchased 10 HP Indigo 10000 Digital Presses.

HP and CGX officials disclosed the purchase agreement during the drupa tradeshow in Düsseldorf, where HP is showing the HP Indigo 10000 model press—the first B2-format (750 millimeters (mm) x 340 mm / 29.5 inches x 20.9 inches) sheet-fed HP Indigo solution—publicly for the first time. CGX will begin installing the presses at locations throughout its 70-company network when the HP Indigo 10000 becomes commercially available in early 2013.

In addition to the 10-press purchase, Nies/Artcraft, a CGX company specializing in high-quality, targeted direct marketing services, will be a beta user for the HP Indigo 10000, receiving an early production unit later this year.

“CGX’s success is based on its commitment to providing the best, most-effective and most-efficient solutions,” said Richard Davis, executive vice president, Purchasing and Operations, CGX. “Based on what we have seen with the new B2-format capabilities, and judging from our many positive experiences with HP, we believe the HP Indigo 10000 will be a great solution for CGX and its customers.”

Expanding Nies/Artcraft’s high-volume direct marketing capabilities

For St. Louis-based Nies/Artcraft, the HP Indigo 10000 will be a highlight of its new manufacturing facility opening later this year. Nies/Artcraft, one of the leading digital printing providers in the CGX network, is a prolific HP Indigo press user, running more than a dozen presses in a high-volume direct mail, photo products, packaging and general commercial print production operation that serves many Fortune 500 companies.

CGX primarily will use the presses for direct marketing and other commercial printing work. Unlike the smaller digital presses used in the industry today, the HP Indigo 10000 has a size format that makes it suitable for folding carton production, an application several CGX companies also will adopt when they install their new presses in 2013.

“Consolidated Graphics, a company that is among the world’s most progressive users of digital print technology, is taking yet another step forward in efficiency and value, extending its competitive advantage with the HP Indigo 10000,” said Christopher Morgan, senior vice president, Graphics Solutions Business, HP. “This new, breakthrough offering in size format and high-end productivity will bring the advantages of digital printing to many more customers and applications.”

More than twice the productivity, with proven HP Indigo quality

Making its public debut at drupa, the HP Indigo 10000 offers more than twice the productivity of current HP Indigo presses. Designed to take truly high-end digital work into higher-volume production, it prints up to 3,450 sheets per hour in four colors, and up to 4,600 sheets per hour in Enhanced Productivity Mode.

The HP Indigo 10000 also combines offset-matching print quality with up to seven-color printing and duplex and substrate flexibility. Printing on more than 2,500 media currently certified for use on HP Indigo sheet-fed presses, the HP Indigo 10000 is ideal for a variety of high-quality applications, including commercial printing, photo merchandise, publishing and direct mail.
