Unisource Global Solutions (UGS), a division of Unisource Worldwide, Inc., has received two prestigious honors in recognition of its sustainable packaging solution and business model: the 2012 LUXE PACK in GREEN award and the CBN Weekly Innovation 50 award.

Sustainable Solutions – 2012 LUXE PACK in GREEN Award
UGS was awarded the LUXE PACK in GREEN award at LUXE PACK SHANGHAI 2012 as recognition for the development of sustainable alternative packaging designed to replace plastic blister packaging. The new solution utilizes UGS’ bamboo molded fiber to replace up to 80 percent of the plastic used in traditional blister packs. A key component of the solution is UGS’ patent-pending closure. This technology provides anti-theft security while allowing the individual packaging components to be separated cleanly into their own recycling streams.
LUXE PACK SHANGHAI 2012, an international forum highlighting the latest trends and developments from the world of luxury packaging, focused on innovation and sustainability in determining the winner of the LUXE PACK in GREEN award. Selected from nearly 100 specialists in luxury packaging, UGS’ Bamboo Blister Pack Replacement solution reflects the desire of luxury brands to embrace state-of-the-art solutions that reduce environmental impact.
Business Model Innovation – CBN Weekly Innovation 50 Award
UGS also earned a 2012 Innovation 50 award for being an Innovation Pioneer in its Business model. CBN Weekly describes an innovation pioneer as a leader in its industry, with a program or business that must discover new market demand, be innovative and be sustainable. UGS’ focus on bringing new technologies to the packaging industry met CBN Weekly’s criteria of making a difference and driving results towards problem-solving in an industry.
