Turkish packaging printer Doganpak Ambalaj placed an order at Drupa for a KBA Rapida 205 for sheets measuring 1520 x 2050mm (59.45 x 80.7in) – the biggest offset format on the world market.
The ten-year-old company has five large-format presses: two 6B (56in) and three 7B (64in). The six-colour Rapida 205 with coater and dryer will replace an outdated VLF machine.
Doganpak Ambalaj’s main products are packaging for television sets and other bulky domestic appliances. With large- and superlarge-format presses these can often be printed in one piece. After being printed the sheets are laminated onto corrugated. The firm’s biggest customer, 50km (30 miles) away in Manisa, is Vestel, which manufactures television sets both under its own name and for other brands. To improve customer proximity Doganpak Amballaj is in the process of erecting a new printing plant on an industrial estate in Manisa, and this is where the new Rapida 205 will be installed. Following the inauguration of this massive press at the end of the year the entire company will relocate in several stages from Izmir to Manisa.
The Rapida 205 for Doganpak Ambalaj will incorporate a board-handling capability, automatic plate changers, UV provision, combined washing devices for the blankets, impression cylinders and inking unit, ErgoTronic ACR register measuring system, height-adjustable nonstop facility in the delivery, Techkon Spektrodrive instrumentation and control, and a CIPLink-X interface to pre-press.
