Printing Excellence in the Carolinas Recognized

The Printing Industry of the Carolinas (PICA) has announced that Nathan Cloud of Richmond, VA is this year ‘s “Best of Show Student Award” winner in the 2012 PICA Awards Competition.  Nathan’s entry, “American Woman,” won Best of Category in the ‘Offset Printing: 4 Color Process, Finished’ division.  His entry was then selected from all the Best of Category division winners, which compromised entries from six colleges and universities from across the Carolinas.  Nathan will receive a $500 scholarship from the PICA Foundation. He and his parents will be honored guests at the 2012 PICA Awards Banquet, held April 27 in Concord, North Carolina. The PICA Awards competition is one of the largest printing contests in the nation.

In addition to Nathan’s Best of Show, two students won Best of Category awards and seven students won Special Judges and Awards of Excellence recognition.  In Best of Category, Samantha Lisovich won in the Miscellaneous, Specialty or Novelty division for her project ‘Kryptonian at Heart’.  Scott Van Eck won in the Digital Printing: Ink Jet Rigid division for his project ‘Nut Cracker’. In Special Judges awards, Dalvin Nichols, Kendra Brooks, Andrea Fergerson, Emily Blowe, Malcolm Roberson and LeSwane Cuffee-Lewis were recognized. For Awards of Excellence Dalvin Nichols, Andrea Fergerson, Emily Blowe, Malcolm Roberson and Shanequa Blow were honored.

A panel of out of state judges with extensive experience in printing and print production was brought in to examine the work. Each entry was judged on its own merit in a category with similar printed pieces.
