Summit Educational Resources Protects Student Information with bizhub MFPs

Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta) announces that Summit Educational Resources (Summit) has consolidated its document management practices using Konica Minolta technologies and improved the security of information sharing across the organization.

A private organization serving children and young adults with developmental disabilities, Summit provides education and therapeutic services via a school setting and vocational center located in upstate New York.  In 2011, Summit relied on numerous unsecure desktop printers and MFPs with limited capabilities, but needed to modify current document management processes to be in accordance with both Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.  Working with the local Konica Minolta dealer, Copier Fax Business Technologies, Inc. in Buffalo, New York, Summit installed 17 centralized MFPs in August 2011, with the necessary authentication capabilities to better protect confidential student information. The new security processes on the Konica Minolta bizhub MFPs, enabled by badge readers and PageScope Enterprise Suite, ensure that only approved staff can release and access confidential documents.

“Student-specific documents, including medical records and individual education plans, are no longer printed and left sitting on a device for anyone to access.  The Konica Minolta bizhub MFPs have allowed us to better protect this information,” said Jim Poulos, director of information technology, Summit.  “We have also witnessed a drastic reduction in our annual spending on printing and much more responsible printing across our entire organization due to this new solution.”

In addition to reducing their annual document management budget by $12,000, Summit has also reduced waste costs by nearly $4,000 each year.
