Domtar's Ashdown Facility Rolls out TAPPISAFE Safety Program

Domtar will roll out the TAPPISAFE Safety Orientation Program at the integrated Ashdown, Arkansas pulp and paper facility. TAPPISAFE, a service of TAPPI offered in partnership with Alliance Safety Council, provides a standardized safety course program for contractors and is the only safety orientation program specifically designed for the pulp and paper industry, by the industry.

“The TAPPISAFE program provides the Domtar facility in Ashdown with a proven safety orientation system that will ensure all contractors working at our facility have the same safety orientation,” states Terry Hughes, Safety Manager. “The safety of our employees and contractors working at our facility is of primary importance. The TAPPISAFE program provides ready access to information to verify that each contractor has the safety orientation. In addition, TAPPISAFE not only covers common everyday basic safety orientation but also provides for safety orientation specific to the Ashdown facility, which is a large, integrated manufacturing complex with a wide array of safety requirements.”

The TAPPISAFE program provides a solid foundation in safety by addressing OSHA required awareness level safety orientation for any supplier or contractors that works in a pulp, paper or packaging facility. Key aspects of the program include: standardized courses  that help reduce redundant and potentially costly safety orientations, up-to-date OSHA compliance information, and instantly verifiable records.
