Cal Poly Graphic Communication students Kassie Lizama, Natalee Consulo and Michael Mayorga show off output from the a Xanté Excelagraphix 4200 Inkjet Print System recently donated to the university. The Xanté Excelagraphix 4200, powered by Memjet, is one of the fastest wide format printers. It will be used in Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication academic program and in industry seminars and workshops.
Xanté Corp. has donated an Excelagraphix 4200 inkjet print system to enhance the digital printing program at Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication Department.
Harvey Levenson, director of the Graphic Communication Institute at Cal Poly, said the new system sets the stage for wide-format printing in speed and quality. Powered by Memjet, the Excelagraphix 4200 is one of the fastest inkjet-wide format printers on the market.
“The Excelagraphix 4200 strengthens Cal Poly’s commitment to educating students and industry professionals attending Cal Poly seminars and workshops with technology and business practices representing the future of the graphic communication industry,” Levenson said.
It will be used in laboratory classes, by University Graphic Systems, Cal Poly’s experiential student-run, faculty-advised printing, publishing, and imaging company, and by the Graphic Communication Institute at Cal Poly (GrCI), the university’s arm for industry research, testing, product evaluations, training, consulting, seminars, workshop, conferences, and publishing.
One application that Cal Poly will introduce immediately is in the area of packaging. Colleen Twomey, a packaging specialist and assistant professor of graphic communication, is heading-up the project.
“The Xanté Excelagraphix 4200 printer is a perfect fit for our students’ packaging innovation projects,” Twomey said. “Within seconds, students can prototype on flexible and rigid media, in beautiful full- color graphics. We are delighted to work with such state-of-the-art technology.”
