Kubin-Nicholson, a full service display advertising company on Milwaukee’s north side with a roster of name brand clients, recently completed installation of a rebuilt 100-inch Harris-Seybold CJ paper cutter from Colter & Peterson. The large format digital printing house specializes in oversized prints for point-of-sale displays and other things, and business is booming.
“We’re putting through more work with this cutter and we’re using it for two-and-a-half shifts, 18 hours a day. It’s a real workhorse,” says Andy Anderson, the longtime Facilities manager who has worked at K-N for 23 years.
The Harris-Seybold CJ works in tandem with a KBA press measuring 58 ½ x 80 ½, the largest sheetfed offering in the world. Milwaukee’s finest display shop produces larger-than-life in-store displays and other work for hometown icons Harley-Davidson and Miller Brewing, as well as for other national and regional customers. Anderson says the older Harris-Seybold version was in place when he first began working at K-N.
“It was in dire need of a rebuild. C&P took the machine apart, redesigned the covers and added new electronics. We also upgraded it to have a new Mircocut system with a 12-inch touch screen, and the Microcut motor on the hydraulics system is much faster. It’s not a very high tech machine and the electronics are not complicated, but it has three big pieces, is exceptionally accurate, and the overall quality is very good.”
In addition to C&P being the largest independent distributor of paper cutters and paper handling equipment in North America, the company offers the biggest selection of used and rebuilt industrial paper cutters in the U.S. Anderson was glad to see the safety features that came with the rebuilt Harris-Seybold cutter.
“There were none on the old machine when it was built in 1965,” remarked Anderson, who is awaiting delivery on a Harris-Seybold 85-inch cutter he had C&P rebuild. “With the 100-inch guillotine blade cutting through six inches of paper, it does have a shutdown feature my guys appreciate. I’m happy with its performance and I don’t know of anyone who knows more about Seybold cutters than Colter & Peterson.”
