Wide-Format Graphics Consumers Win As Leading Firms Merge

Spotlight Graphic Solutions, the wide-format services division of K&M Printing, has expandd its technical and customer service capabilities with the acquisition of Franklin Park-based National GraphX and Imaging.

“With an extremely loyal client base and management expertise developed over more than five decades, National GraphX presents us with tremendous opportunity for growth,” says Chris Kelly, Spotlight vice-president. “We now can offer clients an expanded choice of wide-format graphics solutions and innovative products at a time when shifting communications strategies challenge most businesses, from financial and health care to universities and nonprofits.”

The merger allows National GraphX an exciting transition for our clients, according to Barry Rubin, president. In recent years, the company has focused on wide format printing for corporate projects, retail POP, special events, museum exhibits and trade shows. “Now, through this merger with Spotlight, we have the opportunity to provide small format printing capabilities as well.”
“We’re not going anywhere,” says Rubin, who, along with brother Steve Rubin, vice-president, and 10 full-time employees move to Spotlight’s facility in Schaumburg. “We’ve gotten great response from clients who are excited to have greater access to new products.”

“This industry changes constantly, and the changes are not always in technology,” says Rubin, whose company for many years reigned as the Midwest’s premier photo provider. “You’ve got to keep finding cost-effective solutions that help clients achieve their goals.”

K&M is a family-owned and operated facility that offers an extensive array of services including digital printing, offset printing, display printing, print-on-demand, web-to-print, direct mail, pick and pack services, and more. Founded in 1974, K&M also is exceptional in its ability to provide professional graphic design, wall mural printing, binding, saddle stitching, and convenient, one-stop solutions. K&M signatures include quality work by a veteran team of experts, competitive pricing, and quick turnaround times.

Spotlight represents K&M’s large- and wide-format printing services. The company develops trade show displays, banners, posters, and presentations up to 98 inches wide to help clients gain additional visibility and impact. State-of-the-art equipment includes the Vutek Pressview UV Inkjet Press; Mutoh Toucan LT Printer; Miller Weldmaster Heatseal Welder; and Kongsberg Vacuum Table with i-Cut Vision Router.

With annual sales of $1.5 million, National GraphX and Imaging (formerly National Photo Services, Inc.) offers a tradition of customer service and industry experience that extends from the darkrooms of the 1950s, to 21st century digital technology.

“We’ve navigated so many of the cultural shifts that have challenged industry over the years that it becomes a matter of not ‘if’ but ‘when’ change will occur,” says Rubin. “From mobile and web to the convention floor, we’re ready with new resources.”
