Classic’s Laura Huelin and Leanne Kinsella took part in Saturday’s Puppy Up! Lake Norman Walk held at Jetton Park in Cornelius November 9th. This was the first Puppy Up Walk! Event ever held in NC and $9,739 was raised to support the link between cancer in canines and humans. 90 dogs and their owners showed up greeted with Puppy Up! Bandanas for the dogs, who were rewarded with homemade doggie cupcakes at the finish line. Water bowls lined the trails for the canine heroes as well as water bottles for the humans.
Live music, silent auctions and a photo with Santa made up the festivities. Puppy Up! Is sponsored through 2MillionDogs http://www.2milliondogs.org/, a national organization which began with a promise to raise awareness of canine cancer one mile, one city and one person at a time. Founder Luke Robinson with his two dogs walked 2,000 miles from Austin to Boston to fulfill the promise he made to his dog Malcolm who died of cancer.
“I lost my Border Collie Katie this past year to Lymphoma,” commented Leanne Kinsella, Director of Market Development at Classic. “She was only 7 and it took her very quickly. We are all huge pet lovers at Classic. We walked not only for Katie but for our coworkers, many of whom lost pets to cancer, as well as an intern who Classic lost at the young age of 21 from a rare form of bone cancer.”
The event concluded with a balloon release to honor those people and pets who lost their battles with cancer and to celebrate them in spirit.
