Durst Takes High Profile at SGIA '09 Product Image

Durst Image Technology US LLC will display working models of the Rho 1000 continuous inkjet production system, the five-meter Rho 500R superwide roll-to-roll UV inkjet printer, and its high-speed 98-inch Rho 800HS large-format UV inkjet printer in Booth #2201 at SGIA 2009. Durst's exhibit booth, one of the largest at the Expo, is located right at the entrance to the trade show exhibit floor.

Durst, a platinum sponsor of this year's SGIA conference and trade show, also will give an informational presentation titled: "High-Volume Digital Print Production and Workflow Automation," as part of SGIA's educational conference. Michael Lackner, worldwide marketing director, Inkjet Systems for Durst Phototechnik AG, and Christopher Howard, senior vice president of Sales & Marketing, for Durst US will lead the session (S-37) scheduled for 9:30-10:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in Room 242, Second Level.

"Our newest Rho printers represent nothing less than the new global standard for large-format production digital printing, in terms of productivity, efficiency and image quality," Howard said. "The two keys are the dramatic advancements Durst has achieved with our Quadro 30D Array print head technology, and also with our workflow systems and configurations. The result is unprecedented speed, image quality, cost-efficiency and versatility in a highly reliable imaging platform."

The latest iteration of Durst's Quadro 30D Array print head technology doubles the number of nozzles per color to 2,048, regulates ink temperature at the nozzle, and incorporates proprietary Point Drop Setting ink regulation to deliver exceptional image quality at high speed.

"Everyone who is familiar with the Rho 1000, 500R and 800HS?that includes many of our current customers, industry analysts and others in this industry?calls them game changers that can transform their printing operations and help them compete in new market spaces," Howard added. "We're very pleased to be able to introduce these new platforms to the SGIA audience."

Rho 1000

The industrial-grade Rho 1000 efficiently transports and prints on a remarkably wide variety of sheet, heavy rigid and roll media. The printer, designed to provide flexibility and versatility in the high-production environment, requires very little set-up time and no masking. It operates in a continuous-feed workflow that eliminates load/unload delays between sheets?similar to screen or offset printing methods and other systems designed for optimal integration and productivity.

The Rho 1000 is capable of printing more than 200 4x8-foot sheets or boards per hour. In addition to many typical stand-alone digital applications, the capabilities of the Rho 1000 make it well suited for integration into screen and offset printing workflows, in which its high-speed, full-color printing becomes one step in the overall image production process.

Rho 500R

The Rho 500R prints six-color, 600-dpi images on five-meter vinyl, mesh and other superwide roll media at speeds up to 4,300 s.f./hr. It also is able to print three independent images from three separate job queues on three different 1.6-meter rolls all at the same time to achieve high efficiency and handle a broader range of applications. The printer operates unattended, uses less ink than comparable superwide platforms, and minimizes operational costs due to its high productivity, advanced workflow and remarkable versatility.

High-performance carriage and linear motor drive systems, precision Push Media transport mechanisms, a proven front-to-back registration system, on-board laser media tracking sensors, Durst's intelligent dither technology, a range of user-settable parameters, and a variety of other innovative technologies combine to make the Rho 500R one of the most effective, economical large-format imagers ever developed, Durst said.

Rho 800HS

The Rho 800HS is a high-speed version of Durst's Rho 800 Presto Large-Format UV Inkjet Printer. The same continuous board printing system employed in the Rho 800 Presto, voted the Top Flatbed Printer by the readers of Wide-Format Imaging magazine for the past two years, is available in the Rho 800HS. Materials are registered at the leading edge using mechanical front stops. The transport system then positions the next series of boards against the first, ensuring continuous printing without interruption. Also similar to the Rho 800 Presto, the Rho 800HS prints on multiple narrow boards across its total 98-inch width, on materials up to 2.75 inches thick?but at a top speed of more than 2,000 sqft/hr. In productive two-pass mode, it delivers exceptional image quality at nearly 1,200 sqft/hr. The printer also is compatible with Durst's roll feed/take-up accessory, designed for long runs and fast media changes. It handles oversized rolls up to 440 pounds (200kg), diameters up to 12 inches (30cm), and widths up to 80 inches (200cm).
