Colortrac's SmartLF Ci 40e (enhanced color) technical document scanner, recently awarded a BERTL 4 ½-Star Outstanding rating, is now available with a certified ISIS (Image and Scanner Interface Specification) driver.
Created by Pixel Translations (now EMC Corporation) in 1990, ISIS is a software standard for the acquisition, viewing, format conversion, printing and storage of documents in order to ensure consistent and reliable communication between hardware and software. ISIS is the basis for a public domain standard, ANSI/AIIM MS61-1996 Application Programming Interface (API) for Scanners in Document Imaging Systems, issued also as ISO 14984. Over 300, high speed small format document scanners are available with this industry standard, enterprise-level interface which ensures that scanned information is quickly and reliably integrated into EDM (electronic document management) and EDC (electronic document capture) applications for digital distribution, processing and storage.
Colortrac has pioneered the use of ISIS for its large-format scanners since 2003, when the Colortrac 3680e scanner ISIS driver was developed. Over the years Colortrac has supplied many customers with its wide format scanners and ISIS drivers. Users find the familiar ISIS scanning interface and workflow reduces staff training costs, and they can be confident that a certified and tested connection, allows easy expansion of their EDM system to manage scanned wide format documents such as technical drawings and maps.
"Recent sales successes and economic conditions have re-focused our marketing efforts in the EDM/EDC market and a key element of our strategy is to strengthen our product offering to these important prospective customers. The SmartLF Ci 40 large format scanner range is ideally suited to EDC / EDM applications with its high speed, color capability and small footprint," said Peter de Winter-Brown, sales and marketing director, Colortrac.
ISIS provides benefits to both hardware and software engineers, as well as end-users. Once hardware drivers are written, they are tested for compliance with the ISIS standard by the EMC Corporation. Only after passing stringent tests is ISIS certification issued and the drivers listed on EMC Corporation's website. This demanding process results in ISIS certified solutions that offer reliable interoperability between scanner hardware and document management software. A consistent user interface across third party programs and robust, reliable performance are the chief benefits of the ISIS standard.
Colortrac developed its wide-format ISIS driver in order to give EDM users with small-format scanners a quick, easy and cost-effective route up to large-format document capture. EDM professionals wanting to scan large-format documents simply need to acquire a SmartLF scanner with its ISIS driver, then continue to use the EDM software they already own and their existing know how to capture large-format documents. SmartLF large-format scanners now join over 300 hardware devices which share support for the ISIS standard compatible with over 200 software solutions.
Among the benefits of the SmartLF wide-format ISIS driver are the following:
? ISIS certification guarantees product quality, reliability and interoperability
? ISIS-compliant scanning applications have a largely common user interface
? The familiar ISIS interface minimizes re-training at existing ISIS user sites
? Works with all major ISIS compatible software applications
? SmartLF ISIS drivers are unique in the large-format scanner market
? High quality scans from SmartLF supported large-format scanners
? Scan in large-format color, grayscale and monochrome (black and white)
? Information-intensive systems run faster using ISIS than any other interface
