Just in time for the 2009 catalog season, Verso Paper Corp. introduces Clarity, its new brand of supercalendered (SC) papers created with the discerning paper buyer in mind. Clarity enhances and expands Verso’s SC product portfolio, providing SCA+, SCA and SCB grades in a wide range of basis weights for both rotogravure and offset printing.
“With Clarity, Verso now has the flexibility to offer the SC grades required to meet a broad range of magazine, catalog and retail insert printing needs,” says Mike Weinhold, Verso’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “By rounding out our product portfolio to include Clarity Plus, as well as enhancing and rebranding our Trilogy SC grades to Clarity A and Clarity B, we can now deliver the press runnability, print quality, optical characteristics and tactile attributes that customers expect in top-of-the-line SC products.”
Clarity will be produced on the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 paper machines at Verso’s mill in Sartell, Minnesota. “Previously, Sartell’s No. 3 paper machine produced only lightweight coated (LWC) products,” Weinhold explains. “But thanks to the ingenuity of our manufacturing team, and strategic investments made at the Sartell Mill, we now have the flexibility to produce both LWC and cost-competitive SCA+ papers on this machine. We are committed to operating Sartell’s No. 3 machine to meet our customers’ SC and LWC needs. As a result, we anticipate more than half of PM3s production at Sartell will transition from LWC to SC,” he says.
The Sartell mill is certified to both the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) (SW-COC-002775) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) (PwC-PEFC-319) chain of custody standards, giving Verso’s customers the opportunity to purchase Clarity FSC- and PEFC-certified products. Verso also will offer Clarity recycled-content options.
Clarity will replace Verso’s Trilogy brand of SC papers.
