The C.P. Bourg BB3002 PUR combines Bourg’s system engineering with PUR dispensing technology from Nordson and adds it to Bourg’s highly automated BB3002 Perfect Binder. Finished books in perfect-bound and lay-flat applications can range in size from two sheets (eight pages) up to 2.36" thick, with cover dimensions of 3.5x3.9" to 12.59x15.15". It features tool-less set up using an icon-driven touchscreen to select and set functions automatically from a list of menu options. The compact, single-operator system also automatically measures book length and block thickness and calculates the centerline of the cover to fasten the spine, to meter the precise amount of PUR adhesive, and bind books of the same size and different thickness one after another automatically—without operator intervention. The unit can produce up to 350 books an hour.

What truly distinguishes the EP/MC from competing systems is its innovative Smart Press motion control (MC) technology. Typically, some book blocks have a tendency toward wavy stock which in turn creates an increased risk of wrinkled end sheets. Smart Press significantly reduces the likelihood of this outcome since it provides a single action, continuous pressing force across the entire face of the book. The initial pressing action can be precisely controlled to relieve the surface tension between the end sheets and the book block prior to applying full pressure. This ensures that the pressing is firm and accurate, and that books are cased-in without bubbles or wrinkles.
- Product From Spiel Associates Inc.
The Sterling Digibinder, offered by Spiel Associates (Booth 2651), is one of America's most popular perfect binders. The Sterling Digibinder Plus adds a safety cover, a vacuum, a stand and an extra heavy-duty roughing and notching blade. This unique roughing blade roughs and notches the entire backbone of the book. This allows for the binding of coated and oil infused stocks. Twin glue rollers ensure an even glue application. The machine also produces book blocks for hard cover binding.
