The AST-100 viscometer from Brookfield provides continuous control of adhesives which is crucial for proper binding, material usage and cleanup time. When the viscosity is too high, excessive glue decreases product quality and requires more cleanup.
Moving parts from other instrumentation can be damaged during startup if the adhesive is still in solid form. Brookfield's AST-100 torsionally oscillating viscometer has no moving parts and can mount directly into the tank from above which continuously monitors viscosity and temperature in the adhesive tank. The data is transferred to Brookfield?s closed loop controller model AST-300 via an RS-485 signal.The controller regulates the duration of time the solenoid valve is open, which keeps the water injection rate low during process control, and provides an adjustable time interval for the next measurement cycle allowing time for the pump to recirculate the hot melt viscosity to level off.
Once the adhesives viscosity is tested and qualified in the tank, a Quick Set pushbutton on the AST-300 allows the operator to set it to the specific value and forget it--allowing the AST-100 to maintain a steady viscosity. This device is simple to use, reliable in operation and has no moving parts to maintain.
