Adobe has launched Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.5, the next-generation, full-featured printing software that enables end-to-end workflows for graphically rich publishing based on Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF).
Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.5 continues Adobe's long-standing tradition of innovation and leadership in printing. This tradition is being honored at the IPEX 2010 opening ceremony today, where Adobe's founders, John Warnock and Chuck Geschke, will be honored with Champions in Print awards.
PDF Print Engine 2.5 leverages the new exchange standard for Variable Data Print production—PDF/VT—ushering in new era of personalized print production. With PDF Print Engine 2.5, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and print providers can address their customers' demands for more relevant and personalized marketing materials, as well as take advantage of the increasing quality and cost-effectiveness of today's digital presses. Several OEM partners will announce new products based on Adobe PDF Print Engine at IPEX 2010.
"The new functionality of PDF Print Engine 2.5 allows our customers to continuously move along the innovation path and explore new opportunities," said Bart De Pelsmaeker, head of software at Agfa Graphics. "On top of that, there's a vast amount of enhancements to ensure compatibility with front end applications and a performance increase of the rendering process."
PDF Print Engine 2.5 completes an end-to-end PDF-based workflow based on Adobe technologies: Creative Suite for authoring, Acrobat/Reader for validation and sharing, and PDF Print Engine for final output. PDF Print Engine 2.5 increases the rendering speed and workflow viability for graphically complex personalized effects, including variable transparency, by enabling repeating elements to be intelligently cached. With PDF/VT, soon to be an international standard (ISO 16612-2), PDF Print Engine 2.5 will enable blind exchange of VDP jobs, opening up the market for more relevant, personalized content to more enterprises, marketers, designers and printers. Several VDP authoring vendors are expected to announce their plans to generate PDF/VT from their applications at IPEX. Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.5 in conjunction with PDF/VT will offer greater flexibility, granular controls, and more automation in the management of VDP print production.
