For spine glue applications, Nordson specializes in solutions for PUR adhesives and has developed the PURBlue 4 slug melter for efficient, effective processing of the low volumes of reactive PUR adhesives needed for short-run digital print jobs. The ability to easily and proficiently use PUR adhesives is particularly important in digital printing as the fuser oils, inks, and toners commonly used can impair the binding quality of some other adhesives. Start-up and shutdown are simple with user friendly controls and graphic indicators, and melt-on-demand processing along with the adjustable force piston reduces adhesive waste while increasing productivity. With the EP48 spine gluing application head, the PURBlue 4 melter creates a closed adhesive system to improve production processes and finished book quality of perfect bound books. Nordson spine glue systems can be incorporated into most new or existing single or multi-clamp binders.

EP/MC Book Pressing and Joint Forming Machine
Product From Muller Martini Corp. -
What truly distinguishes the EP/MC from competing systems is its innovative Smart Press motion control (MC) technology. Typically, some book blocks have a tendency toward wavy stock which in turn creates an increased risk of wrinkled end sheets. Smart Press significantly reduces the likelihood of this outcome since it provides a single action, continuous pressing force across the entire face of the book. The initial pressing action can be precisely controlled to relieve the surface tension between the end sheets and the book block prior to applying full pressure. This ensures that the pressing is firm and accurate, and that books are cased-in without bubbles or wrinkles.
