ILFORD Imaging Switzerland GmbH

BioMedia Universal Display Film

BioMedia Universal Display Film is a recyclable and biodegradable alternative for today’s widely-used, and ever-lasting, traditional commercial vinyl-based products. The ILFORD BioMedia line includes rigid mounting boards and laminates as well as the Universal Display Film, which employs the company’s renowned coating technologies to create print surfaces that maximize the environmental benefit without compromising image quality.

Designed to meet the most demanding expectations for quality and performance, ILFORD BioMedia is recycled under Code 6, applying to products such as cups, utensils and compact disc cases. The product is compliant with the EU REACH Regulation, which was implemented in 2006 in order to protect human health and the environment. BioMedia also breaks down under anaerobic (no oxygen) landfill conditions thanks to a unique enzyme that accelerates the biodegradation process. The products have been tested and certified by an independent laboratory in accordance with ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard D5511, which determines the anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials.

ILFORD is a driving force in the imaging industry and has consistently demonstrated the ability to design products in line with the rapidly changing market. With growing pressure on today’s businesses to adopt policies and processes that offer environmental sustainability, ILFORD has not only embraced an internal approach of sustainable product innovation, but with the BioMedia line has embodied that corporate responsibility in its product offerings.

The ILFORD BioMedia range gives customers an opportunity to reduce their negative impact on the planet without sacrificing the high quality standards they have come to expect from ILFORD media.

ILFORD BioMedia Range stands as the first commercial media range that is recyclable under Code 6 and is compliant with the EU REACH Regulation, as well as being completely biodegradable in anaerobic (no oxygen) landfills. In addition, the universal coating of the BioMedia Universal Display Film, developed by the innovative research and development team at ILFORD, ensures that the media is compatible with a wide range of printers and inks. This combination offers superior performance with environmental sensibility.
