Fujifilm UK has announced the launch at FESPA Digital 2012 of XMF ColorPath Sync, a cloud-based color calibration system that allows printers to set up and manage compliance to printing standards including, for instance, ISO 12647-2. When used with Fujifilm's "Pro-File" brand of screen and UV inkjet inks, which have been optimized to facilitate cross-process color control, printers with both screen and wide-format equipment have a simple and reliable way of managing compliance to target printing standards.
XMF ColorPath Sync helps to streamline the process by which printing devices are set up to the ISO 12647-2 standard. Unlike other color calibration systems, XMF ColorPath Sync is cloud-based. The user interface is a web browser and because no local client software is required, it can be used on any workstation within a print company with users benefitting automatically from any updates to the system.
The color charts required for calibration are measured by industry standard spectrophotometers (such as the X-Rite Eye-One) that are plugged directly into the web browser. To improve productivity, the charts used for calibration are smaller than current charts used for this process, which not only allows them to be read more quickly, but also allows them to be placed on live work for on the fly calibration. In addition, the calibration curves that are generated in the cloud by XMF ColorPath Sync are automatically downloaded into the RIPs driving the color devices, further improving automation and production efficiency. An analysis of current and historic calibration data collected online can be displayed directly in the web browser or used to automatically generate PDF reports so the results can be easily sent to any stakeholder who needs the information.
John Davies, business strategy manager, workflow, FUJIFILM Europe GmbH comments: "We are investing considerable time, energy and money into transforming XMF into a production management system that meets the wider needs of a print business, rather than just manage simple PDF-based print production. Managing colour and ensuring consistency across multiple print processes is a growing problem, as print applications that have traditionally been handled in separate companies continue to be integrated into single print operations. We believe modern production management systems should address this problem, and with the growing power of cloud-based technologies, we felt that the time was right to launch such a system. Combined with our Pro-File inks, we are now able to offer screen and wide format printers a unique system for managing colour."
Although part of the Fujifilm XMF product portfolio, XMF ColorPath Sync is also available as a stand-alone color calibration system, with commercial availability from FESPA 2012 onwards.
