Durst has chosen next month’s Label Expo ’12 conference & trade show in Chicago for its North American debut of the world’s first UV inkjet digital device to print on a 13-inch web – the new Durst Tau 330 UV Inkjet Digital Label Press.
The Tau 330 is designed for short -and medium-run narrow web applications, covering widths from 6.5-13.0 inches and running at print speeds up to 157 ft. per minute, while delivering sharp, precise image reproduction. Production capacity can reach 10,225 square feet per hour. The capabilities of Durst’s newest label press translate into remarkable flexibility and productivity for smaller label jobs. The Tau 330 is also available in an 8-inch-wide version.

Durst Tau 330 handles the widest range of short -and medium-run narrow web applications:
- variable data jobs containing variable or sequential numbering, text, barcodes, matrix or QR codes, and images
- industrial, security, durable electronics, automotive, paintspecialty food & beverage, body & health care, household chemicalprinting on aluminum foils for blister and other packaginglate-stage versioning of preprinted jobspre-die-cut label stock (blank labels)
- Sharp, precise, “best in class” print quality for today’s most demanding applications is made possible thanks to Durst’s proprietary single-pass UV inkjet technology featuring Xaar 1001 print heads. This technology delivers a print resolution of 720x360 dpi. But with its advanced drop on demand, variable drop size and gray scale capabilities, the apparent image resolution of the Tau 330 is more than 1,000 dpi.
Color configurations are virtually unlimited to cover a vast majority of requested label printing applications. The Tau 330 prints white UV ink, which is essential for applications on transparent substrates. Its standard color configuration CMYK can be complemented with orange and violet to provide up to 90 percent coverage of the Pantone color gamut.
The Tau 330’s UV inks are formulated for durability. This is an especially important quality for such demanding applications as product identification labels, UL recognized components, consumer electronic equipment labels, outdoor equipment and power tool labels, and any other application in which the label must perform during the whole product lifetime.
Cost-effective operation and high profitability are the result of the Tau 330’s use of affordable inks, its ability to print on standard as well as specialty label substrates, and its solid construction that enables reliable 24/7 operation. Built-in maintenance functions like automated print head cleaning help to increase performance and reduce down time to a minimum.
The Tau 330 can be equipped with a special detection device and software to accurately print on pre-die-cut labels. The same function also handles in-print variable information (1D and 2D Barcodes, sequential numbers and other extensive variable Data and images).
