ORIS Lynx from CGS (Booth 2644) is the first and only SaaS-based solution for creating true device link profiles. (Other cloud solutions generate ICC profiles only.) It uses the ORIS iterative process to achieve and maintain a reliable device profile, and to process color jobs consistently, matching specifications such as SWOP or GRACoL. However, it does so without a dedicated, on-site server, and without requiring on-site color expertise. For simple, CMYK print workflows that do not require multiple profiles—or the use of spot or custom colors—ORIS Lynx is an innovative and cost-effective solution.
On the client side, ORIS Lynx utilizes a plugin for Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer, in a manner that does not conflict with existing security or firewall provisions. All other Lynx components reside in the cloud—on secure servers, with fail-safe redundant processing servers, maintained by CGS. Target measurement consists of using a spectrophotometer, controlled via the browser plugin. Device profiles are generated in the cloud, based on a desired color specification, and returned to the customer for use in the color device’s RIP or digital front end. ORIS Lynx uses either device links—hence the name—or ICC profiles to maintain color output consistency over time on a single device, or across multiple devices.
